The Venezuelan Happy Birthday Song
My birthday was last week, and although my (American) friends sang a lovely rendition the traditional Happy Birthday song, Venezuela has an extended version called Ay Que Noche Tan Preciosa (Oh What a Precious Evening) prior to singing the American translation, which goes something like this:

I am a U.S.-born Latina (my family has lived in the U.S. since 1704 on the mestizo side alone, not even counting the indio side) -- PERO -- I lived in Venezuela between 1979 and 1980 (married a good Venezuelan boy I met in college). I LOVED Venezuelan-style hotdogs, hamburgers, empanadas and everything else. Wish I had had the Internet back in the day to keep a blog of my gringa impressions of life in South America. You are very lucky.
